The Salt Air Problem (And What It Means for Your Marketing)
August 12, 2026
If you're a contractor working anywhere near the coast in Atlantic Canada, you deal with salt air. It corrodes metal. It eats through cheap siding. It cuts the lifespan of roofing materials by years. Customers in Lunenburg deal with different problems than customers in Fredericton.
But here's the thing nobody in marketing talks about: that specificity is your superpower online.
Generic content ranks generically
A page that says "We offer roofing services in Nova Scotia" competes with every other roofer in the province for that one search term. It's vague. Google has no reason to prefer it over anyone else.
A page that says "Salt-resistant roofing solutions for coastal homes in Lunenburg County" competes with almost nobody. Because nobody else wrote that page. And there are homeowners Googling exactly this problem every spring when the winter damage becomes visible.
Your geography is content
The problems specific to your area are blog posts waiting to be written:
- "Why vinyl siding fails faster on the Fundy coast"
- "How coastal humidity affects your HVAC system in Saint John"
- "Spring basement flooding in the Kennebecasis Valley: what to check first"
- "Ice damming on your roof: why Moncton homes are especially vulnerable"
These aren't generic topics anyone can write about. They're specific to your area, your expertise, and the actual problems your customers face. Google loves this. AI loves this. Customers trust this.
Use what you know
You've seen things other contractors in other regions haven't. You know which materials fail in maritime weather. You know which neighborhoods flood. You know which building styles have which problems. That knowledge is worth more than any generic marketing playbook.
Write about what you see on the job. The specifics that only someone working in this region would know. That's content nobody else can replicate, and that's exactly what ranks.
