Stop Paying for a Website Nobody Finds

You're paying for hosting. Maybe a maintenance plan. Your website exists at yourbusiness.ca and it loads when you type that in. But here's the question nobody asks: how is anyone finding it?

If the answer is "they search our name," that's not a website generating leads. That's a digital business card for people who already know you. Those people would have found you anyway.

A website should bring you new customers. People who have never heard of you. People searching "roofer Halifax" or "plumber Quispamsis" or "emergency electrician Moncton." Those searches happen hundreds of times a month. Is your site showing up?

The test

Open an incognito window. Search "[your service] [your city]" without your company name. Find yourself. If you're not in the top 10 results or the Map Pack, nobody's finding you through search. Your website is a trophy sitting on a shelf.

This is more common than you think

I do free audits for local businesses across Atlantic Canada. Roughly 70% of the sites I look at have zero organic traffic outside of branded searches (people typing the company name directly). Seventy percent. These businesses paid for websites that serve no marketing purpose whatsoever.

They work fine as a place to send people from a business card or a Facebook post. But they're not doing any heavy lifting. They're not generating new business. They're a cost center, not a revenue generator.

The fix isn't expensive

Proper on-page SEO. Service area pages. Optimized title tags and meta descriptions. A Google Business Profile that links back to the site. Consistent citations. Some content.

That's it. It's not magic. It's just work that most web designers don't do because it's not their job. Their job was to build something that looks good. Nobody told them it also needed to be found.
