I Looked at 50 Contractor Websites in New Brunswick. Here's What I Found.

I spent a Saturday going through 50 contractor websites in New Brunswick. Roofers, plumbers, electricians, excavation, HVAC, landscapers. All of them came from Google searches. Here's what I found.

Problem #1: Slow (38 out of 50)

Seventy-six percent of these sites took more than 3 seconds to load on mobile. Some took 7 or 8 seconds. The number one culprit? Uncompressed images and bloated WordPress themes. One site had a 6MB hero image. On LTE that takes forever.

Problem #2: No clear service area (41 out of 50)

Most sites never mentioned where they work specifically. Just "serving the greater Moncton area" or nothing at all. Google needs location specifics to rank you for local searches. If your site never mentions Dieppe, Riverview, or Shediac by name, you won't show up for searches in those areas.

Problem #3: No reviews on the site (44 out of 50)

Almost none of them displayed their Google reviews on the actual website. They might have great reviews on Google, but a visitor who lands on the site never sees them. Social proof on the page itself increases conversions significantly.

Problem #4: Contact info hidden (29 out of 50)

More than half required you to navigate to a separate contact page to find a phone number or form. On mobile, that's one extra tap that costs you conversions. Phone number should be visible on every single page without scrolling.

Problem #5: No blog or content (47 out of 50)

Ninety-four percent had zero blog content. Just static pages. No fresh content for Google to index. No targeting of question-based searches. No reason for Google to come back and recrawl the site.

The silver lining

If you fix even three of these five things, you're in the top 10% of contractor websites in this province. The bar is genuinely that low. Your competition isn't optimized. They're not actively marketing. They're coasting on word of mouth and a website from 2019.
